On Sunday, the Colonels traveled to Sherman, TX to play in the Komen Game IV, where the two teams battled not only on the field, but off the field as well to see who could raise the most money on behalf of the Susan G. Colorado
College held its own against No. 14 DePauw on Sunday, but dropped a 1-0 decision in a defensive battle that was as every bit as close as the score indicated. The CC defense held DePauw to just nine total shots, the fifth time this season the Colorado College defense has held an opponent to fewer than 10 shots. DePauw capitalized on its best opportunity in 43rd minute, scoring on a diving header that found its way between the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Brian McGhie and the near post. McGhie finished with four saves, the best of which came with 1:16 to play when he punched away a crossing shot destined for the lower right corner of the net. DePauw finished with a 9-8 edge in total shots and both teams had five corner kicks. CC started the weekend with a 3-1 loss against Centre College on Friday night under the lights on Washburn Field. The Tigers tied the game in the 39th minute when Matt Fechter’s hard shot from near the right post went in off a defender, but less than two minutes later the Colonels countered off a CC attack and took the lead for good. Colorado College goes on the road for the final time next weekend for a conference game at travel partner Austin College on Saturday and a match with future SCAC member University of Dallas on Sunday.

The 13 wins are the most by a DePauw team since the 2002 squad won 15. The Tigers' 11 shutouts this season most since the 1997 and 1986 teams each had a school-record 12. Current head coach Brad Hauter was the starting goalkeeper for the 1986 team.

Hendrix
suffered a 1-0 defeat to HardingUniversity on Tuesday under the lights.  Fans saw a fairly even match-up at Warrior Field as Hendrix and Harding squared off in the two teams first ever regular season contest.  First year midfielder Cameron Rose scored his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute to give the Bisons a 1-0 victory.  Harding came out of the gate with intensity and jumped out to an 8-0 advantage in shots after 18 minutes of play.  The Bisons ended the opening period with a 15-4 lead in the category.  Hendrix would gain momentum in the second half and earned more of the possession, outshooting Harding 10-3 in the final 45 minutes.  With 53:04 showing on the scoreboard Rose intercepted a pass and dribbled around his defender to send a rocket across the goal from about 12 yards in front of the right post.  Hendrix junior goalkeeper Adam Legg turned back six shots, including a brilliant penalty kick save (pictured) in the 28th minute. Harding senior goalkeeper denied eight shots.  The Bisons improve to 2-8 on the year and the Warriors fall to 4-7 with their fourth straight loss.  Three of those four losses have been one-goal affairs.

Sewanee
dropped their only game of the week on Wednesday, when they fell to visiting Maryville College, 5-0. Maryville’s Brian Beckham was the deciding factor for the Scots, as he tallied a hat trick and proved to be too much for the Tigers’ defense. Maryville held the advantage in shots, 16 to 11, while Sewanee led in corner kicks, 4-2. Goalkeeper Freddie Delchamps collected five saves in 71 minutes of play. The Tigers play host to two SCAC matches this weekend when they host Rhodes on Friday and Hendrix on Sunday. Sewanee is now 3-7-2 on the year and 1-2-2 in SCAC play.

With two big wins this weekend the Southwestern Pirate Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten in conference action and improve to 9-4 on the year and 6-0 in the SCAC. Friday the Pirates scored early and often against Birmingham Southern College and defeated the Panthers 3-0. In Sunday's game against Millsaps College SU was unable to capitalize on their numerous attacks as the match remained scoreless at the break. A rousing halftime speech by Head Coach Don Gregory spurred the Pirates into action as they scored three goals in the second half for a 3-0  win over the Majors. Southwestern earned their first regional ranking of the season last week, landing at #10, and face two regionally ranked opponents in action this week. Thursday SU faces conference-rival and #1 in the regionally ranked Trinity in a battle of the unbeatens and then travels to San Antonio on Saturday to face #6 in the region UC Santa Cruz.

Trinity blanked Millsaps 9-0 to start the week, featuring nine different goal-scorers in the Friday night game.  Peter Philpott and Sean Cantarella both had two assists each.  On Sunday, the Tigers scored a 4-1 win over Birmingham-Southern, again using four different players to score goals.  CH Farmer had a goal and two assists to lead the team to the win, and the only goal allowed came in the 88th minute. Trinity travels to Southwestern on Thursday to continue its SCAC schedule, then takes a weekend away from conference action to face UC-Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon.  Last season, Trinity defeated Southwestern 3-2 in double overtime in San Antonio.  The Tigers won the last meeting in Georgetown 1-0 in 2008.  Trinity and UC-Santa Cruz have met just twice recently, with the two teams splitting the meetings – both of which came in the NCAA Playoffs.  Trinity won 3-0 in the 2003 NCAA Quarterfinals – on the way to the NCAA Championship for the Tigers – and UCSC eliminated Trinity with a 4-0 win in the second round of the playoffs in 2006.
