SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University track and field's Zach Brush has been awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Brush, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity in engineering science on May 14, graduated cum laude (with honors). He finished with a 3.70 grade point average.

He plans to use the $7,500 award to further his education in mechanical engineering, and is deciding on a graduate school. Brush hopes to eventually earn a doctoral degree, and conduct research and teach at the university level.

Brush became the 33rd Tiger student-athlete to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship, and the third during the academic year. Trinity is ranked in the top-10 for Postgraduate Scholarships among NCAA Division III schools.

The talented Brush was earlier elected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He captured three events at the SCAC Championships in April at Memphis. Brush won the 800 meters in a SCAC record-meet time of 1:53.50, and became the first male athlete to win the event four straight years. He also took the 1,500 meters (3:56.28), and anchored the Tigers first-place 4x400-meter relay team, which clocked in at 3:22.63.

During the 2009-10 campaign, Brush earned his third career All-America honor by finishing fourth in the NCAA DIII Outdoor 800 meters. Brush had placed fifth in the race in 2008, during his first year at Trinity.

Brush was a key member of the second-place distance medley team at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

A versatile student-athlete, Brush picked up All-Region Cross Country honors last November, with a 15th-place finish at the regional meet.

In February, Brush was selected for the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic Men's Cross Country Team.

Earlier this month, Brush was elected to the Capitol One Academic All-District 6 Men's College Division Track and Field/Cross Country Team. Voting is conducted by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
