COLUMBUS, Ohio
- Centre College's Chrys Jones won his second consecutive indoor national title in the triple jump Saturday afternoon at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of Capital University.

Jones was victorious with a jump of 49 feet, 8 1/2 inches, which set a new Capital Center Track record. The previous record was held by Joshua Woods of Capital University who had jumped 47 feet 1/4 inches.

It is his fourth overall title as Jones has won posted back-to-back championships in the event at the last two national outdoor track and field championships.

Jones went into the event ranked number one in the nation following a mark of 50"3.50" at the Anderson Indoor Invitational on Saturday, February 26.

"Going in I knew I was ranked number one which was better than last year. I was in hopes of setting a new NCAA record, but I was still extremely pleased with the outcome of winning my fourth national championship," stated Jones.

"The success that I have had today and throughout this indoor season, will help me tremendously heading into the outdoor season. Knowing that I have set such high marks will allow me to push myself harder during the outdoor season."

"I'm very thankful to God for all that he has done for me, without him I wouldn't be able to compete," finished Jones.

Recently named the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, Jones is just the sixth man to repeat as champion in the triple jump at the Indoor National Meet.

"I am very proud of Chrys' performance. Most people dream about four titles and he has made it a reality," said Centre head coach Lisa Owens. "He is a blessing to work with, he has a great work ethic and brings a great attitude to practice every day."

Last year, Jones won the indoor national championship with a mark of 49 feet 3 1/2 inches at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. He has also won two outdoor national championships in the event.

Jones' title is the 25th for an SCAC student-athlete and he joins Christyn Schumann of Trinity University as the only four-time national champions in league history. Schumann won the women's high jump title at the 2005 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship and at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
