Colorado College opens its 2011 campaign on Friday when the Tigers play host to Adams State College under the lights at Washburn Field. CC has won seven consecutive season openers and seven straight home openers since falling to Division I UC Davis in the first game of the 2003 campaign. This year’s squad will be one of the youngest of head coach Susan Stuart’s 17-year tenure with 23 underclassmen and no seniors. The Tigers will feature a trio of All-America candidates in junior midfielder Grace Maloney, sophomore defender Hollis Moore and sophomore goaltender Abby Fink. Maloney has played in 27 of 28 games during her first two seasons and has been among the team’s leaders in every statistic. In two years, she has recorded 51 ground balls, 49 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers to go along with 43 goals, 16 assists and 59 points in the offensive zone. Moore was one of only three players to start every game last year. She tallied 12 ground balls and seven caused turnovers a year ago and figures to greatly increase the numbers in 2011. Fink made 119 saves while playing in all 13 contests and posting a goals-against average of 10.50 during the 2010 season, and those numbers are expected to be significantly improved this year.

Millsaps got thier first win Saturday in overtime, 14-11 over the Agnes Scott Scotties. Haleigh Williams scored three goals in the final 1:30 of the second half to send the game into overtime and then sealed the program's first victory with the winner in the overtime period. Sewanee got on the board first with a Victoria Friedman goal in the second minute. W&L answered back just 19 seconds later, but Sewanee’s Megan Welton found the back of the net just 26 seconds after to put Sewanee ahead 2-1. The Tigers finally found their offensive attack in the second half, scoring nine goals, but it was too late, as W&L took home the 21-13 win. Welton scored six goals on the night and added nine draw controls. Friendman and Allison Bland added two goals apiece. Sewanee will host Redlands University on March 5th at noon.
