INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - President Majorie Hass of
Austin College was one of four to be nominated to serve four-year
terms on the Division III Management Council beginning after the
2011 NCAA Convention. Complete Release
The other three nominees are:
- Jan Hathorn, athletics director, Washington and Lee University (Old Dominion Athletic Conference)
- Nancy Meyer, director of women’s athletics, Calvin College (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association)
- Kurt Beron, faculty athletics representative, University of Texas at Dallas (American Southwest Conference)
Haas will fill one of two slots on the Management Council reserved for presidents. She will replace Wells College President Lisa Marsh Ryerson (who has been nominated to begin a four-year term on the Division III Presidents Council). Moravian College President Christopher Thomforde is the other president currently serving on the Management Council.
Hass became the 15th president of Austin College in July 2009 after serving as the provost at Muhlenberg College from 2004 to 2009. Before that, she served for nearly a year as interim dean of the college for faculty and vice president for academic affairs. She also was director of the Center for Ethics at Muhlenberg for three years, responsible for programming and integration of the center’s program into the curriculum.
Hass began her career at Muhlenberg in 1993 as assistant professor of philosophy and was promoted to associate professor in 1998 and to professor in 2006.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the
University of Illinois, Champaign. She continued studies there to
complete a master’s degree and Ph.D. in philosophy.
