SHENANDOAH, Texas - The Trinity University women captured their eighth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. Official championships website
Trinity, which has won 11 titles overall, scored 876 points at the Conroe ISD's Woodforest Natatorium. DePauw was runner-up with 817 points.
The Tiger men, who were leading going into Saturday's final day of competition, finished second to DePauw for the sixth straight time. DePauw won the event with 921 points, and Trinity amassed 843.
Trinity swept the SCAC Diver of the Meet honors. Junior Kevin Martin was named SCAC Male Diver of the Meet, and sophomore Ruth Hahn emerged as SCAC Female Diver of the Meet.
Martin won the 3-meter board with a score of 534.35, the second-highest total in SCAC Championships history. He captured the 1-meter event, for the second straight year, by a SCAC meet record 512.25.
Hahn was the winner of the 1-meter diving, scoring 475.80 points. She beat out senior teammate Hayley Emerick, the three-time defending champion, who posted 473.90 points.
Emerick, the 2010 NCAA Division III 3-meter champion, won Saturday's competition for the fourth straight year. She scored 530.50 points, edging out Hahn by less than a point (530.45).
In Saturday's women's swimming events, first-year Melanie Gustafson placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:37.11), and third in the 200-yard butterlfy (2:09.88). First-year Meghan Varner finished second, at 2:09.66.
Junior Andrew Battles won the men's 200-yard backstroke, with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:52.67. Sophomore Sean Fronczak, last year's champion, was runner-up at 1:54.42.
Alex Miranda, the 2010 Male Swimmer of the Meet, won the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:05.50). First-year swimmer Lucas Belury placed second, with a time of 1:54.42.
Junior Aaron Shaver was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (46.46).
