GREENSBORO, N.C. - Following the third round of action, Centre senior Chris Morris remains in first place at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Greensboro, N.C. and the Colonels as a team are tied for ninth place with Christopher Newport and Redlands. Official Website

Centre has a team score of 896 following Thursday's play. Greensboro College is currently leading the event with an 877. Methodist is in second place with a score of 880 and Texas Lutheran University rounds out the top three with an 882.

Morris was able to hold onto the lead, which he gained in the second round of play, with a score of 71 on the third day of play to give him a 203. He opened the NCAA Men's Championship by posting a 67 and followed that up with a 65 on the second day of action.

Sophomore Grant Hinton improved in the third round by posting a 74 to give him a three day total of 229. He is tied for 49th place. Senior Lyndon Jones, sophomore Patrick Davidson, and sophomore Kenyon Cook each shot a 77 on Thursday. Jones is tied for 51st and is one shot behind Hinton with a 230. Davidson, who has a three day total of 235, is tied for 69th. Cook is sitting tied for 74th with a 237.

Oglethorpe struggled in the third round falling from 7th to 12th place after posting their highest total of the year of 314 (+26). Now 27 strokes off the lead, the Petrels once bright title hopes have grown dim heading into tomorrow's final round.

The Petrels stumbled from a tie for the lead to 7th place during a difficult round two yesterday and, surprisingly, found the scoring even tougher in round three. For the afternoon, Oglethorpe suffered three triple bogeys and two doubles versus only four birdies as the squad sunk like a stone from contention.

The trouble for Oglethorpe started at the top of the lineup where sophomore Eric Quinn endured his worst scoring round of the year with an 83 (+11). He fell from 34th to 51st place individually in the process.

Things did not go much better for senior Craig Stevenson and junior Jordan Hall as they each carded identical 81's (+9). Stevenson fell from a tie for 12th to a tie for 33rd while Hall now resides in a tie for 60th.

It was the Petrel freshmen of Anthony Amodeo and Patrick Cansfied that managed to turn in good performances for Oglethorpe in round three. Amodeo carded a 77 (+5) that was derailed from an outstanding score by a triple on the par-4 fourth hole. Cansfield turned in Oglethorpe's round of the day with a 75 (+3). He was the only Petrel to avoid double or triple bogeying a hole. Amodeo now sits in a tie for 51st place overall while Cansfield climbed from 124th to 61st after the steady performance.

The fourth and final round of play will take place on Friday, May 13 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
