Baker & DeGayner named SCAC Swimmers of the Year; Emerick and Martin named SCAC Divers of the Year

SUWANEE, Ga. - Based on exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College and Catie Baker of DePauw University were named the league's male and female Swimmer-of-the-Year, while Kevin Martin and Hayley Emerick - both of Trinity University - were selected as the SCAC male and female Diver-of-the-Year.

Colorado's DeGeyner, a junior from Nokesville, Va., finished first in three different individual events at the SCAC Championships, the 50-yard free, 100-yard fly and 100-yard free, and was instrumental in four relays for Colorado College. He set a new SCAC Championships Record in the 100-yard butterfly of 49.88. During the meet he achieved NCAA consideration standards in the 100-yard fly, 200-yard free and 100-yard free and set Colorado College records in the 100-yard fly, 100-yard free, 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays. DeGayner was also named the 2011 SCAC Male Swimmer of the Meet.

At the 2011 NCAA Championships, DeGayner earned all-America honors placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, the highest finish of any individual SCAC Swimmer at the 2011 Championships. His time of 1:38.64 in the prelims set a new SCAC open record and a new Colorado College record. He also earned Honorable Mention all-America honors with a 13th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.  His time of 45.08 in the swim-off set a new Colorado College record and is the second-fastest in SCAC history.

DePauw's Baker, a junior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, finished first in three different individual events at the SCAC Championships (200 IM and 100 and 200 breast) earning NCAA "B" cut times in all three events. She was also part of the Tigers' all-conference relay team in the 400 free which earned an NCAA "B" cut time.

At the NCAA Championships, Baker earned all-America honors with her eighth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. In prelims she broke her own school record and set a new SCAC open record in a time of 1:03.39. She earned Honorable Mention all-America in the 200 breaststroke with a ninth-place finish (2:18.99) setting another school and SCAC open record.

Trinity's Martin, a junior from Corpus Christi, Texas, took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition at the SCAC championship. He posted scores of 515.25 and 534.35, respectively, and his 1-meter score established a new SCAC meet record. Martin also earned SCAC Diver of the Meet honors, the first Trinity male diver to earn such honors since 2008.

Trinity's Emerick, a senior from Portland, Texas, took second place in the 1-meter diving competition at the SCAC championship and won the 3-meter competition. She posted scores of 473.90 and 530.50, respectively, breaking her own SCAC meet and open record in the 3-meter competition. Emerick was named SCAC Diver of the Meet for a fourth consecutive year.

At the NCAA championships, Emerick earned all-America honors finishing second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competition while posting scores of 458.50 and 458.20. A seven-time SCAC champion in the 1- and 3-meter competitions, Emerick closed out her incredible career having earned all-America honors each of her four years of NCAA championship competition.

In an exclusive vote by the head coaches that took place at the 2011 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Centre College was selected the SCAC Women's Coaching Staff-of-the-Year while on the men's side, DePauw University and Colorado College tied for the honor.
