CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed a nation-high
13 individuals on the 2010-2011 National Golf Coaches
Association (NGCA) All-American Scholars Team. A total of 566
women’s collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and III were
recognized with this prestigious honor. Complete Release
Of the 85 honorees from Division III, the SCAC outdistanced every
Division III conference with its 13 total selections. The next
closest conference had nine selections - achieved by both
the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and
the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Centre College led the way with three
selections as Paige Burton (Sr., Frankfort, Ky.), Emily
Bachert (Jr., Bowling Green, Ky.), and Catherine Parks (Fy.,
Salisbury, N.C.) were each named to the team.
Four more SCAC institutions joined Centre with multiple
selections. Kaleigh Toole (Fy., Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Jennifer Commander (Jr., Auburn, Ala.) from
Birmingham-Southern College, Chelsea Gatterdam (Fy.,
Pensacola, Fla.) and Dona Kioseff (Fy., Valdosta, Ga.) from
Oglethorpe University, Chloe Bootstaylor (Fy., Atlanta, Ga.) and
Mary Reed (Fy., Kansas City, Mo.) from Rhodes College and
Molly McCarthy (Fy., Fulshear, Texas) and Molly Zumbro (Fy., San
Antonio, Texas) from Trinity University were each named to the
team.
DePauw University's Paige Gooch, the 2011 NGCA
Freshman-of-the-Year (Fy., Fort Mitchell, Ky.,) was also
selected as was Karissa Speck (So., Artesia, N.M.) of
Southwestern University.
Birmingham-Southern's Commander is a repeat selection from a year
ago and Centre's Bachert was selected to the team in 2008-2009.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
