JHANCARLOS CARPIO OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a sophomore from Pasadena, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Thursday, September 1 through Saturday, September 3. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Carpio impressed at the Celt Opener, securing a first-place finish at 15:50 over the 5K course. Carpio topped a field including Division I runners in muggy Houston conditions.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Will Salony of Trinity opened the 2022 season with an impressive performance at the UIW Twilight on Friday night, posting the program's fastest 6K time and leading a close spread from the team's 1-5 runners. Salony finished in seventh place overall with a time of 18:52.6 among NCAA I competition, which is an improvement of 36.5 seconds from last year's time at the exact same event. Junior Nico Walz of Dallas recorded a time of 25:04 in the men's 4-mile race at the Nicole Leman XC Invitational hosted by LeTourneau. Walz placed 16th in the season-opening meet.
