MACKENZIE PAYNE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Celina, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 4)

At the Concordia (Texas) Classic, Payne was the second SCAC finisher in the largely D3-laden meet with the only other conference finisher ahead of her being her own teammate. She was the third overall D3 finisher and 11th behind D2 and NAIA teams. Her time was 23:32 over the significantly short 6K course.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Rachel Chiella of Southwestern was one of two front-runners for the Pirates to finish in the top 20 at the Concordia (Texas) Classic. Amongst a combination oif SCAC, ASC, NAIA and Division II opponents, Chiella finished 15th over the 5.5K course in a time of 23:43.9 while averaging a 6:56.6 mile. Junior Ashley Martinez of St. Thomas led the Celts by finishing 13th with a time of 23:54 at the Concordia (Texas) Classic. Her score propelled St. Thomas to a fourth place team finish - the second highest anong DIII schools at the meet.
