Sanchez kicked off her senior year with a strong performance at the Celt Opener, taking first-place honors with an impressive time of 14:06 over the 2.12 mile course. She paced all Division I runners at the meet while braving muggy conditions in Houston.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Elaine Kaster of Trinity broke her personal-best in the 4K by nearly 18 seconds in leading Trinity to a third-place finish at Friday's season-opening UIW Twilight that featured mostly NCAA I teams. Kaster notched a 10th-place finish individually with a time of 15:02, leading a 33-second spread from Trinity's top five runners in the race.
