SHAVONNE RESPONDEK OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior setter from San Antonio, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 28 through Sunday, November 2. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 10)
One of the more versatile players in the league, Respondek led the Bulldogs with 39 assists (6.50 per set) in the team's two wins this past week, including a sweep of #16 Southwestern on Friday. The senior, who also saw a few sets at outside hitter, moved into sixth all-time in digs in program history on Friday and posted double-doubles (assists/digs) in both of her team's matches.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
First-year setter Gaby Torres of Schreiner averaged 7.40 assists per set while adding 14 digs in the Mountaineers' two victories last week. Senior setter Brianne Tseng of Austin College had an outstanding week, averaging 5.67 assists and 3.50 digs per set as the 'Roos went 3-1, including 2-0 in conference play. Tseng reached double-figures in assists in all four matches and hit double-digits in digs twice, with a team-best 19 in a sweep of Howard Payne. She had a high of 21 assists in a sweep of McMurry earlier in the week. Senior setter Kendall Howard of St. Thomas showed incredible resilience, playing through a broken nose while averaging 5.20 assists per set to lead the offense to a five-set comeback and a 2-2 weekend record. Along with her playmaking, she contributed 37 digs, showcasing her all-around impact on the court. Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry averaged 4.80 assists per set (24 total) as the War Hawks went 1-1 last week.
