Brendan Beard, Texas Lutheran University, Player of the Week (Week 1)

BRENDAN BEARD, TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Spring, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Friday, February 2 through Sunday, February 11. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 1

Beard is off to a perfect 2-0 start on the mound for the Bulldogs to open up the 2024 campaign. The senior scattered just seven hits, while tossing 11 innings over two appearances without allowing a single run. In addition to his sparkling 0.00 ERA, Beard struck out a career high 11 batters in just six innings of work in the 5-0 win over Concordia last Friday and in total leads the SCAC with 16 strikeouts in two starts.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Junior pitcher Adrian Montenegro of Dallas picked up the win in the Crusaders 9-1 win over Sul Ross St. to open the 2024 campaign. Montenegro tossed 7.2 innings, allowing just one run, scattering three hits and striking out 11. Junior right-hander Fito Mendez of Schreiner made his season debut on Friday at home against Howard Payne and earned the win. Mendez tossed seven innings, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs with one walk and five strikeouts. First-year pitcher Austin Ryan of St. Thomas made his presence felt in relief on Friday on the road against Ozarks, securing a 5-4 win. Ryan left batters hitless in three innings, allowing no walks and no runs, while striking out three.
