Emma Garrett, University of St. Thomas, Hitter of the Week (Week 1)

EMMA GARRETT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMASa freshman outfielder from Danbury, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, February 1 through Sunday, February 7.

Garrett led the Celts to their first win in program history last week in an opening weekend split on the road against LeTourneau. She recorded a hit in both games including going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in St. Thomas’ 12-11 win in game two of the doubleheader. Overall, Garrett posted a .556 batting average (5-for-9) with two RBI, two runs scored, two doubles, one stolen base and a .778 slugging percentage. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outfielder Kelly Jurden of Texas Lutheran scored three runs and had three stolen bases in the Bulldogs’ doubleheader split with NCAA DII St. Mary’s (Texas). In the Bulldogs’ 4-2 win, Jurden scored twice, had a hit, and walked twice. She had an on-base percentage of .625 in the two games. Freshman outfielder Diamond Elizondo of Trinity collected three hits on Sunday, leading the Tigers to a season-opening doubleheader sweep of the University of Texas at Dallas. Elizondo picked up her first collegiate hit in the fifth inning of game one, driving in the eventual game-winning run and capping a Tiger comeback from two runs down with her first career RBI. She followed that performance by going 2-4 with a run scored in game two.
