LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
The conference portion of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer schedule got underway last week as Centenary, Texas Lutheran, Southwestern and Trinity all remained unbeaten in league play following the opening weekend of fixtures.

Centenary (6-2, 2-0) secured six points last weekend and is currently sitting tied atop the table after defeating Johnson & Wales (1-9-1, 0-2), 2-1, on Friday and Colorado College, 2-0, on Sunday. Against the Wildcats, the Gents trailed at the half, but sophomore Wil Escobar scored twice to secure the win. Escobar then scored the game-winner again on Sunday as Centenary defeated the CC Tigers for the first time since 2012, extending its current win streak to five, the longest since the Gents rattled off six-straight victories to close out the 2011 season.

Texas Lutheran (8-3, 2-0) is perfect through its opening two league contests for the first time since joining the SCAC and also sits tied atop the standings after defeating Austin College (3-7-1, 0-2), 4-1, on Friday and defeating Dallas, 3-0, on Sunday. Sophomore Luis Green was credited with the game-winner against Austin College and finished the weekend with three points after adding an assist in the win over Dallas. Braulio Adam sparked the Bulldogs offense against the Crusaders at TLU found the back of the net three times in the second half. Texas Lutheran has now won three-straight matches, scoring 10 goals during that stretch.

Southwestern (7-2-2, 1-0-1) currently sits third in the SCAC after securing four points on opening weekend after tying Dallas (1-7-1, 0-1-1), 1-1, last Friday and knocking off Austin College, 3-1, on Sunday. Against the Crusaders, junior Luis Ramirez gave Southwestern the lead before Dallas senior Chima Ogueri produced the equalizer in the second half as the match ended in a draw leaving each team with a point a piece in the standings. The Pirates then got two goals from freshman Ashton Bynum on Sunday to lead SU in the win against the ‘Roos to close out the weekend.

Trinity (5-2-2, 1-0) has now won six consecutive SCAC openers after defeating Schreiner (2-8-1, 0-1), 5-0, in the Tigers only game last week. Sophomore Phillip Duenez delivered in his first start of the season, scoring the opening three goals of the game for the natural hat trick. Duenez has four goals in his last four games and defensively Trinity has posted shutouts in three of its last four contests. The Tigers have allowed just two goals in its last five while posting a 4-0-1 record in that span.

Colorado College (6-5, 1-1) split a pair of road conference contests last week and currently sits tied for fourth with three points after defeating St. Thomas 3-0 on Friday to open league play for the Tigers. After a scoreless opening half, CC scored all three of its goals in the second frame, the game winner coming off the foot of senior Hayden Cogswell, to capture three points and a win over the Celts.

St. Thomas (5-5, 1-1) bounced back from the loss against Colorado College to pick up a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against Johnson & Wales on Sunday. Junior Maxwell Lockhart struck from just outside the penalty area in the 92nd minute to lift the Celts to victory and bank three points in the league standings.

League play continues this week with nine contests scheduled, highlighted by Southwestern traveling to play Colorado College on Friday and Trinity hosting Centenary on Sunday.
