NEW ORLEANS, La. - The United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2019 NCAA Division III Track & Field Team and Athlete Academic awards on Monday, July 22.
In total, five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) teams, three women’s and two men’s, received the Academic Team award. Colorado College, Southwestern and Trinity received the award on the women’s side while Colorado College and Southwestern also received the award for the men. The CC women led all SCAC teams with a 3.6 GPA.
A total of 297 teams were honored for their academics, including 184 women's programs and 113 men's squads. In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
In addition to the academic teams, six individuals were recognized for their academics. Trinity had three women achieve All-Academic status including seniors Abigail Bannon-Schneebeck, Melissa Loseff and Molly McCullough.
On the men’s side, Trinity collected a conference-high two individuals including freshman Sean Majors and senior Blair Walker, while Colorado College was represented individually by senior Henry Baldwin.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship; or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
