LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a busy holiday break with all ten Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams seeing action, highlighted by Centenary, Southwestern and St. Thomas all hosting doubleheaders.
St. Thomas (6-0 SCAC; 12-0 Overall) remains undefeated in SCAC play with wins over Johnson & Wales (88-51), Colorado College (102-92), Trinity (88-64), and Schreiner (77-74). In their 37-point victory over JWU the Celts were led by Nathan Thormaehlen posting a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Freddie Ricks added 13 points of his own. In their win over CC all five Celts’ starters scored in double-digits, led by Ricks and Thormaehlen with 21 points each as UST hit the century mark for the fourth time this season. The Celts continued their winning streak with a victory over Trinity, led by Cameron Gims scoring 15 points last Friday. Kennard Robinson led UST with 13 points in a close 3-point win over Schreiner on Saturday. Leading by a point, freshman guard Austin Arnold knocked down a pair of free throws to lead the Celts to victory.
Texas Lutheran (4-1 SCAC; 7-5 Overall) went 3-0 over the break with victories over Trinity (76-66), Schreiner (79-76), and Southwestern (77-69). In their win over Trinity, Sebastian Andrade led the Bulldogs recording a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Against Schreiner, Andrade once again led the team with 27 points and three assists. Jordan Kite paced the Bulldogs over Southwestern posting a team-high 21 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Four other players scored in double-figures, including Trystin Silas with 13.
Centenary (7-6 Overall) is now 4-2 in league play following a pair of wins over Colorado College (83-75) and JWU (92-54) on the road to close out 2019. Against CC, the Gents were led by Ty Prince who poured in 24 points, while adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the overtime victory. Prince then led the Gents against JWU posting a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while senior guard Cedric Harris added 21 points of his own. Prince and Harris have each reached double-figures in all 11 games this season for the Gents.
Trinity (2-2 SCAC; 4-7 Overall) went 2-0 over the break with victories over Southwestern (79-73) and Centenary (81-60). In their close win over Southwestern, the Tigers rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half as David Nickell led TU with 15 points and Jordan Lippman added 14. The 21-point win over Centenary saw Lippman lead the Tigers with 15 points while Ben Hanley added 14 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Dallas (2-2 SCAC; 6-5 Overall) went 2-1 over the break with a pair of conference wins over JWU (59-58) and Colorado College (72-64). In their one-point win over JWU the Crusaders had three players score in double-figures including, Michael Wambsganss with 12 points, Letrell Toussaint with 11 and Jacob Giunta adding 10 points. Against CC, the Crusaders were led by Jai Love’s career-high 15 points and John Russell’s career-high 13 points.
Southwestern (7-5 Overall) in now 3-2 in conference play following a 68-66 victory over Schreiner last Sunday. Kyle Howard hit a game-winning layup with one second remaining to lift the Pirates to victory. Brandon Alexander led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Howard added 14 points of his own.
Schreiner (1-3 SCAC; 3-8 Overall) opened its 2020 portion of the schedule with its first SCAC win over Centenary, 72-65 last Friday. The Mountaineers were led by Matthew Rindahl posting a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Paul Wells added 18 points and four rebounds.
Colorado College (1-5 SCAC; 3-9 Overall) claimed its first SCAC victory over Austin College, 88-80 last Friday. CooXooEii Black tied his season-high with 27 points and led four Tigers in double figures. Eric Jonas added 18 points with Aaron Acosta adding 17.
Austin College (1-3 SCAC; 4-7 Overall) split games over the break, securing its first SCAC win over JWU, 96-77 to colse out the holiday break last Saturday. Justice Mercadel led the ‘Roos recording a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds against the Wildcats. Devin Roland added 27 points in the victory as the ‘Roos shot 50.7% from the field.
Another full week a SCAC action continues with nine conference games on the schedule.
