LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five SCAC men's teams were in action this past week with three - Centenary, McMurry and University of the Ozarks - participating in the Hendrix College Relays and Classic on Friday and Saturday.
In Friday's relay portion of the meet, Ozarks took third place, followed by McMurry in fourth and Centenary in sixth in the seven-team event.
Ozarks posted its bests finish of the night in the 200 free relay as the team of Daniel Lopez, Nicolai Van Zyl, Josh Collins and Jacob Jones led the Eagles to a second-place finish with a time of 1:33.40. McMurry got its best finish in the 500 frees relay, as the War Hawks placed second in 4:31.22. That group consisted of Brayden Reeves, Alec Satre, Ethan Sykes and Terrin Boehmer. Centenary boasted three third-place finishes, including the team of Tripp Montgomery, Mitchell Lulich and Ricky Lafleur who took third in the 300 breast relay in a time of 3:12.04.
The action continued in Conway, Ark., on Saturday with all three teams participating in the 52nd annual Hendrix College Classic. Ozarks was once again the top scoring SCAC participant, finishing in fourth with 140 points. Centenary followed in fifth (114) and McMurry was sixth (101) in the nine-team field.
Among the highights on Saturday for University of the Ozarks, Jacob Jones finished fourth in the 1000 free (10:31.94) and teammate Nicolas White was seventh (11:01.81). Josh Collins posted a 10th-place finish in the 50 free (23.02) and followed with a seventh-place finish in the 100 free (50.78). In the 500 free, Jones placed sixth with a time of 5:02.60, and White followed with a time of 5:25.80 for ninth place
For McMurry, Terrin Boehmer posted a top 10 individual performance with a seventh-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.60. The freestyle continued to be the War Hawks strongest event as Alec Satre posted a 10th-finish in the 100 free (51.89) in a field of 26.
Ricky Lafleur posted the top finish for Centenary, coming in third in the 200 breast in a time of 2:15.81. He was also eighth in the 200 IM in a time of 2:04.50.
In other action around the league, Southwestern dropped a 175-77 decision to University of the Incarnate Word on Friday. Matt Oevermann was the first Pirate to crack the top three, placing second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:28.03. Sam Anderson earned another Pirates second-place finish in the 100 free in a time of 48.30. Keith Gill finished third in the event (49.58). Carter Duncan followed with a second-place finish in the 100 back (57.45), Alek Argueta placed second in the 100 breast (59.98) and Sal Contreras was second in the 500 free (5:15.37). Oevermann took another second-place finish for the Pirates, touching in 4:25.88 in the 400 IM.
On Saturday, despite dropping its dual to the University of Texas-Permian Basin (197-79), several Austin College program records fell in the process.
Ethan Nguyen set two program records, taking first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.72 and added another first-place finish in the 100 IM with a time of 54.78, nearly four seconds faster than the next competitor. Nguyen also had a first-place finish in the 100 breast, coming in with a time of 59.31. Sean Cookson added a second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 52.68, and Colton Baker gave the 'Roos second-place points on the 3-meter board while Stephen Estraca finished second in the 1-meter diving event.
The schedule continues next week with four of the league's seven teams in action, highlighted by Austin College traveling to University of the Ozarks for an intra-conference dual.
