LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six league teams were in action this week, with Dallas, Schreiner, Texas Lutheran and the host school Trinity all participating at the Alamo Classic at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio.
Trinity took team honors at the event, firing a final round 298 to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor by one stroke (592-593). The Tigers were two shots back heading into Tuesday's final round. Senior Peyton Bartee led Trinity with rounds of 70 and 73 for a one-over par 143 - good for a third place finish in the 49-player field.
Schreiner placed fourth in the event, three shots out of third and five behind Trinity with a two-round total of 597. The Mountainners were led by freshman Jake Sitterle, who earned medalist honors after rounds of 69 and 70 for a 3-under-par 139. He and Robert Quintana of Hardin-Simmons, who duplicated Sitterle's two-day total of 139, were the only golfers in the field to finish under par. Sitterle finished as medalist after defeating Quintana on the second playoff hole. On the first playoff hole, both players made par and on the second hole of the playoff (hole No. 11) Sitterle made a birdie and Quintana's birdie lipped out.
Texas Lutheran shot the low round of the day on Tuesday (293) and finished tied for fifth with LeTourneau with a two-day total of 598. Sophomore Chase Maus bounced back from an opening 78 to post one-under 70 on Tuesday to lead the Bulldgos and finish tied for 13th.
University of Dallas posted rounds of 305 and 300 to finish at 605 and tied for seventh. The Crusaders were paced by freshman Jacob Trevino, who finished at +8 and tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard after rounds of 76 and 74.
Playing at the prestigoius Golfweek Division III Fall Invite in Destin, Fla., with 10 of the nation's top 25 teams among the field, No. 15 Southwestern finished tied for eighth with a three-round total of 864. The Pirates shot a final round 281 - the second-lowest round of the day - to move up four places on the leaderboard. Senior Cade Osgood shot three rounds of 70 to finish -3 and tied for seventh in the 90-player field.
Johnson & Wales senior Alex Fernandez broke his own school record for the single-lowest round in team history with an opening round 4-under 67 at the Revolutionary Classic. The senior maintained his lead during Sunday's second and final round with a 2-over 73 to win the individual tournament championship at -2. The Wildcats placed third as a team (302-315-617).
