LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All 10 Southern Collegiate Men’s Soccer squads were in action last week as the league closed out its designated non-conference portion of the schedule, highlighted by Trinity head coach Paul McGinlay winning his 500th career game.
McGinlay secured the milestone victory last Friday evening after Trinity (4-2-2) defeated Texas Lutheran, 4-0. Coach McGinlay is the ninth Division III coach to reach 500 wins in a career and the 16th men's soccer coach in any NCAA division to achieve the milestone. He is also the fastest in NCAA history to 500 victories, achieving the feat in his 29th season with the program and picking up the milestone in his 614th career game. Trinity closed out the weekend by defeating Southwestern on Sunday, 2-1. Junior forward Andrea Codispoti finished the week with three goals to lead the Tigers, including both goals in the win over the Pirates.
Southwestern (6-2-1) went 1-1 last week, first extending its win streak to six games last Friday following a 2-0 victory over Schreiner (2-7-1). The six consecutive victories tied for the longest such streak for the program since the 2002 season. Senior Logan Jenkins got the game-winner in the win for his first goal of the season.
Centenary (4-2) posted a perfect 3-0 record last week with shutout wins over Hendrix, 7-0, Austin College, 1-0, and Dallas, 1-0. The Gents are two games above .500 for the first time since 2016 and have strung together a three-game winning streak for the first time since that same season. The seven goals against the Warriors is the most since Centenary defeated Wiley, 17-0, back in 2002. Freshman midfielder Nick Garcia scored three goals and tallied an assist, including the game-winner against Dallas, to lead the Gents in scoring last week.
Texas Lutheran (6-3) bounced back from its loss to Trinity on Friday to knock off Schreiner on the road, 3-0, on Sunday. Junior midfielder Braulio Adam was credited with the game-winner to collect his first goal of the season and junior defender Lalo Lopez-Rivera finished the game with a goal and an assist to lead the Bulldogs with three points.
Colorado College (5-4) earned a 2-1 overtime victory against Johnson & Wales (1-7-1) last Friday in the lone game of the week for both teams. Emad Bashir-Mohammed put the Wildcats up 1-0 before the Tigers got a goal from Sam Bermingham and the eventual game-winner in the fifth minute of overtime delivered by Griffin Meyer.
St. Thomas (4-4) split a pair of fixtures last week, falling to Dallas on Friday before responding with a shutout win over Austin College (3-5-1), 2-0, on Sunday. Carlos Marquez scored twice, finding the back of the net in both contests, including the game-winner against the ‘Roos. Pedro Medrano finished with three saves in the win as the Celts have now posted a shutout in two of their last three games.
Dallas (2-5) went 1-1 last week, opening with an impressive 4-2 victory over St. Thomas before its 1-0 decision to Centenary on Sunday. Against the Celts, the Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead that included two goals form senior Hunter Haugland en route to the victory. Haugland now has five goals in his last four games played.
SCAC Men’s Soccer action continues this week as the conference portion of the schedule officially opens up with five fixtures scheduled for Friday and four more contests slated for Sunday.
