LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The last two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming and diving teams completed regular season competition as all eyes shift to San Antonio and the Josh Davis Natatorium in anticipation of next week's SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
University of the Ozarks captured a 124-60 win over Williams Baptist University Saturday at the Clarksville Aquatics Center on Senior Day. It is the second win of the season over Williams Baptist.
The Eagles set a new program record in the 400 free relay as Skylar Frazier, Catherine Wellborn, Shalley Coffin and Rosie Wade posted a time of 4:01.90, breaking the previous mark by six seconds. The meet also had historical significance as Dawn Hampton competed in the program's first-ever diving competition, posting a score of 107.25 on the 1-meter board.
Individually, Wade was a triple-winner, taking first place in the 50 free (26.12), 100 back (1:06.12) and the 50 fly (28.70). Frazier earned two golds, taking top honors in the 50 breast (36.69) and the 100 breast (1:20.23). Other winners inclulded Coffin in the 500 free (6:04.41) and Wellborn in the 100 IM (1:31.65).
The Trinity University women took on the NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word (Texas) Friday in a dual meet at UIW's Barshop Natatorium, falling 155-117 to the Cardinals.
Mabel Fowler won the women's 1,650-yard freestyle and broke two school records in the process. Fowler swam the 1,000-yard leg in 10:14.97 and completed the race in 17:10.11.
The previous marks were set by Melanie Gustafson in 2012, at 10:23.25 and 17:15.64, respectively. Fowler also earned an NCAA Division III provisional time in the 1,650 freestyle. Her time in the 1,000 leads Division III, while her mark in the 1,650 is in the top-10.
Caroline Westholder won the 150-yard butterfly in 1:34.44, edging her Incarnate Word opponent by .23 seconds, while Star Rosales was runner-up in the 50-yard butterfly by .07 seconds.
Katarina Partalas and Maren Merwarth placed second and third on the women's low board. Merwarth and Partalas were third and fourth on the high board.
The 2020 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be hosted at the Blossom Athletic Center and the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas. Action begins Wednesday evening, February 12, and runs through Saturday, February 15. Trinity is the sixteen time defending women's champion.
