LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball continued last week, with 10 games on the schedule. 

St. Thomas (17-1) moved to 10-1 in SCAC play with wins over JWU (82-77) and Colorado College (92-79). On Friday, the Celts were led by Joshua Sanchez with a team-high 18 points. Three other players scored in double-figures including Nathan Thormaehlen recording his fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. In Saturday’s win over Colorado College, Freddie Ricks III had a team-high 24 points with Keaton Shaw chipping in 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Celts made 78 percent (25 of 32) of their free throw attempts.   

Austin College (6-4, 9-8) also went 2-0 over the week with consecutive victories over Dallas on Tuesday and Saturday. In Tuesday’s 96-85 victory, the ‘Roos took a ten-point halftime lead after shooting 53.1 percent from the floor. Three Austin college players finished with 20 points including Justice Mercadel who had a game high 23 points. Devin Roland had 21 and Michael Holland added a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. In Saturday’s 82-71 victory, Holland posted his second double-double of the week with 16 points and 14 rebounds and Roland added 19 points.

Six SCAC men’s basketball teams split games over the weekend. 

Texas Lutheran (11-7) sits at 8-3 in SCAC play following Saturday’s 71-64 victory over Schreiner. The Bulldogs outscored Schreiner in the second half to secure the win. Caleb Lister posted his second double-double of the weekend with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Despite all five starters scoring in double figures TLU dropped a 87-79 decision to Trinity on Friday. Lister once again led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  

Trinity (5-5, 7-10) earned its split with a win over Texas Lutheran (87-79) on Friday before dropping a 73-71 decision to Southwestern the following day. The Tigers shot 55.6 percent from the field on Friday against TLU. Ben Hanley and four other Trinity players scored in double-figures, with Hanley leading the way with 18 and six rebounds. In Saturday’s loss, Hanley had his second straight 18-point performance and Ben Canady added 10.  

Southwestern (5-6, 9-9) gained it’s split with a 73-71 win at Trinity on Saturday. Brandon Alexander led the Pirates with 17 points, making 7 of 7 free-throw attempts, including a pair with three seconds remining to secure the win. In Friday’s 81-72 loss to Schreiner, Preston Hannah led four other Pirates in double-figure scoring, recording 16 points and five rebounds.  

Schreiner (4-6, 6-11) collected its victory on Friday with an 81-72 defeat of Southwestern. In the win four Mountaineers recorded double-digit scoring efforts, including Alex Dehoyos who paced the attack with 23 points. Four players scored in double figures on Saturday as well – led by J’Sean Millers 16-point, 16 rebound double-double, but the Mountaineers fell to TLU, 71-64. 

Centenary (6-5, 9-9) traveled to Colorado were the Gents lost to Colorado College (72-67) on Friday before rebounding with a victory over JWU (85-79) on Saturday.Cedric Harris led the way for the Gents on Saturday win a game-high 29 points and Ralph Johnson added 19. 

Of note from the Johnson & Wales side-line the Wildcat’s Kaleb Atherley set the SCAC single-game rebounding record with 27 boards – a mark (26) that had stood since 2006. 

On Friday’s defeat, Kile Mingo led the Gents with a career-high 21 points while adding nine rebounds, two steals, and two assists. 

Colorado College (3-8, 5-12) secured its win over Centenary (72-67) before a loss to St. Thomas on Saturday (92-79). In Friday’s win CooXooEii Black had a game-high 25 points with Jack McRoskey and Aaron Acosta both adding 11. In CC’s loss to St. Thomas Black poured in 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds. 

SCAC men’s basketball action continues this week with five games scheduled on Friday and four games scheduled over Saturday and Sunday.
