LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four of the league’s eight women’s golf teams were in action last week as Southwestern, Schreiner, Texas Lutheran and Dallas all competed at the at the Rockwind Links Intercollegiate, hosted by McMurry University, highlighted by both an SCAC team victory and individual medalist honor.
Southwestern claimed its second team title in as many events after firing a two-day today of 647 (325-322) at the par-72, 6,015-yard Rockwinds Links G.C. in Hobbs, New Mexico. The Pirates trailed by seven strokes after the opening 18 only to improve by three shots in round two, posting the lowest team total of the day (322), to claim a 17-stroke victory over Hardin-Simmons. Southwestern placed three individuals in the top six led by sophomore Madison Goldberg’s runner-up finish. Goldberg posted a two-day total of 153 with rounds of 79 and 74.
Texas Lutheran and Schreiner finished tied for sixth in the team standings with 719 strokes each. The Bulldogs fired rounds of 360 and 359 and were once again led by senior Summer Swift who claimed her third individual medalist honor of her collegiate career. Swift, who trailed by six strokes after an opening round of 76, fired a career low even-par 72 on the final day to claim a five-stroke victory. The Mountaineers put together team rounds of 352 and 367 and were led by senior Reygan Rodriguez who finished tied for 11th with a total score of 167.
Dallas rounded out the SCAC squads finishing ninth, improving on its second day team score by 25 strokes firing a 396 and a two-day total of 817. Freshman Kaylei Richardson led the Crusaders by carding a 189 (97-92) to finish tied for 39th.
The SCAC Women’s Golf fall season continues this week with three teams in action, highlighted by Johnson & Wales competition at the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational, Centenary teeing it up at the Louisiana College Fall Invitational and St. Thomas competing at the Houston-Victoria Fall Classic.
