LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a full week for SCAC women's tennis with six teams hitting the hard courts.
No. 22 Southwestern (6-1) had a pair of victories Saturday over LeTourneau (9-0) and McMurry (9-0). In the win over LeTourneau, doubles teams Mary Cardone and Emma Kesterson and Allie Ziehm and Mariana Quetzeri opened the day both with 8-1 wins at No.2 and No.3 doubles, respectively. Cecile Wilde clinched at No.2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. In the second match of the day, Cardone and Kesterson had another 8-1 win in the No.2 doubles spot, while Cardone posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No.1 singles spot.
No. 18 Trinity (4-5) also had a 2-0 weekend with a pair of wins over Hardin-Simmons (8-1) and TLU (9-0) on Friday. In their match against Hardin-Simmons, the Tigers swept doubles play, and did it again against TLU with Maddee Williams-Koeller and Nicole Markiewicz securing an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Markiewicz and Williams-Koeller also both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in their respective singles matches (No. 3 and No. 6 singles). Ashley DeBauge finished at the top line with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
St. Thomas (1-6) claimed its first-ever team victory in women's tennis with a 7-2 victory over Mary-Hardin Baylor. Ana Maria Gonzalez claimed shutout victories in both her doubles and singles matches. Gonzalez and Alejandra Lopez claimed the No.1 doubles spot with an 8-0 win, with Gonzalez finishing the No.2 singles spot with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Schreiner (5-4) split matches over the weekend with a 5-3 victory over LeTourneau on Friday. Kate de los Santos claimed the No.2 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, with Blaire Drought-Villarreal, Iris Montero, and Tracey Truong sweeping the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions, respectively. Marlee Daniels and Blair Drought-Villarreal claimed the No.2 doubles point with an 8-1 win.
In its only match of the week, Centenary (0-3) fell to Howard Payne on Saturday (9-0).
SCAC women's tennis action continues this week with nine matches on the schedule, including intraconference matchups between Southwestern and Texas Lutheran on Friday and Trinity and Schreiner on Saturday.
