Trinity Extends Lead After Day Two of SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity University took three of the top four spots in the 500 free to help push its lead over Southwestern University to over 50 points after the second day of the 2020 SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship. Official Website | Thursday's Complete Results | Photo Gallery | Video Interviews Playlist

With 326 points, the Texas Tigers hold a 51-point margin over Southwestern University. The Pirates remain in second place with 275 total points. Colorado College rounds out the top three as the CC Tigers sit with 242 points.

In the lone relay event of the night, Southwestern narrowly took top billing as the Pirate quartet of Sam Anderson, Henry McClure, Drew Anderson, and Keith Gill won the 200 free relay in 1:24.60. Trinity was just 0.01 seconds behind as the Tigers took second at 1:24.07. For the second straight year, after having never posted a top three finish in a men's relay at conference in program's history, Austin College finished in third - this year with a time of 1:25.50.

The individual competitions began with Trinity taking first, second and fourth in the 500 free. Beau Tipton won the event in 4:34.17 while Grayden Nelson was second touching the wall in 4:36.98. Colorado College's Cade Thumann was third at 4:40.15 and Daniel Sarman took fourth for Trinity with a time of 4:40.86. The win for Tipton was his third career SCAC individual title. 

Eric Dallesasse defended his 200 IM title by touching the wall first with a time of 1:52.43. It also marked his third win in the event in the last four years. Southwestern's Anderson was second in 1:52.98. Rounding out the top three was Trinity's Matt Lanzara who clocked a 1:54.29. 

The evening concluded with the 50 free as Southwestern's Gill defended his title with a winning time of 20.64. The win was also the fourth straight for the Pirates in the event. Trinity's Shamzi Alkaff was second touching the wall in 21.00 seconds while Drew Anderson of Southwestern was third in 21.44 seconds. 

With two days in the books the team standings after event 12 are as follows:

3) Colorado College - 242
4) Austin College - 133
5) Centenary College - 130
6) University of the Ozarks - 105
7) McMurry University - 76
