LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a light week in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse with just two games scheduled, however three teams were in action as Southwestern and Dallas faced off last Saturday.
The Pirates knocked off the Crusaders, 25-5, in Irving to improve to 3-1 on the year. The game was tight early, tied 3-3, before Southwestern rattled off 11-straight goals to take control of the contest a build what eventually would be a 16-4 lead at the half. The Pirates outscored the Crusaders 9-1 in the second half to close out the 20-goal victory.
Freshman midfielder Deanna Hames rang up a game-high six goals and added an assist to seven total points to lead the way for Southwestern. Hames won four draw controls and caused one turnover on the afternoon. Defensively freshman Emma Pertuit won 12 draw controls, collected four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Dallas was led by Emily Pauletti’s three goals on seven shots in the losing effort.
In the other game of the week, Johnson & Wales opened its 2020 campaign with a 14-5 loss against New England College last Sunday. JWU jumped out to a 1-0 lead and kept it close early, only trailing 6-4 at the half but were outscored 8-1 in the second half. Jillien Gerace led the way for the Wildcats, scoring two goals on five shots. She also collected three ground balls, won two draw controls and caused two turnovers.
SCAC Women’s Lacrosse returns this week with a packed schedule that features six games, including three on Sunday.
