LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball schedule continued into week three with seven teams seeing action. 

Schreiner (7-3-1) had a big week going 5-0, sweeping a double-header against Howard Payne (14-3 and 17-2) on Tuesday followed by three-straight wins at the UST Celts Classic – including two wins over Minnesota-Morris (14-7 and 11-4) and a non-conference victory over St. Thomas (Tex.) (15-11). The Mountaineer bats were red hot all week as the team hit a combined .438 (78-178) with 21 doubles, two triples and eight home runs among their safeties and outscored their opponents 71-27. Devin Hooper led the way for Schreiner, hitting .813 with 13 hits in 16 at bats, including five doubles and two home runs to slug 1.500 for the week. He added 11 runs scored and drove in 14.

No. 3 Trinity (7-0) also went undefeated, taking three games from Endicott over the weekend. In game one, Corey Cater matched his career-high with 11 strikeouts, allowing four runs on just four hits. In Saturday’s game two, Jack Vonderhaar led the Tigers going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Senior left-hander James Nittoli went 8.0 innings on the mound, striking out eight while allowing just one run on five hits. Meredith posted the big game in game three, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI which included one of the Tigers’ three triples on the afternoon. 

Centenary (7-1) also posted a 3-0 weekend, with a pair of wins over Edgewood (6-5 and 15-3) on Friday and Saturday, and a 12-0 win over Eureka in Saturday’ second game. Connor Lee allowed seven hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts in Friday’s win. Preston Ludwick led the Gents in Saturday’s victory over Edgewood with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate and added two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. In the third game of the weekend, the Gents opened with a 5-0 lead in the first four innings as the versatile Ludwick allowed just four hits while striking out five on the mound.  

Dallas (7-1) was the third conference team to have a 3-0 week, as the Crusaders swept Arlington Baptist (4-1; 8-4; 9-6). Dallas is now 7-1 and off to its best start since 2012 when that team won its first nine contests. Zachary Taylor and Nicolas Hovde both had a double in the first game. Taylor led in the second game with two hits, two RBI and his second double of the weekend. In the third game, Hovd and Nathan Patton had two RBIs each to lead Dallas into to its fifth-straight win.  

Austin College (3-1) picked up a pair of wins over Arlington Baptist (11-2 and 11-9) on Tuesday. Ryan Culp earned the victory in game one with five scoreless innings by allowing only three hits and striking out five. Brandon Vrazel paced Austin College at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Jake Webster added a 2-for-3 effort with an RBI and three runs scored. 

St. Thomas (5-9) split a double-header with Minnesota-Morris on Friday, followed by another victory (8-3) on Saturday. In Friday’s 11-4 game two victory, the Celts jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings, led by Jackson Rodgers who banged a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Leo Galvan led the Celts in Saturday’s win with two home runs and four RBIs.

In its only game of the week, Southwestern (2-2) fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7-4. Lance Kruse had a two-RBI double in the seventh, scoring Preston Witt and Daniel Montgomery.  

SCAC baseball continues with a full week of games, starting Tuesday when Southwestern visits No. 23 Concordia (Texas).
