Kerrville, TX -- Director of Athletics at Schreiner University, Bill Raleigh announced that Marwan Elrakabawy will be the Head Men's Basketball Coach for the Mountaineers.
Coach Elrakabawy spent the 2019-2020 season as the Interim Head Coach where the team finished 11-16 and ending the season winning four of their last five games. The men's basketball team finished their season in the SCAC Men's Basketball Championship Semifinal game with a close 76-70 loss to eventual SCAC Champions Centenary. Elrakabawy coached three Mountaineers to All-SCAC honors in Matthew Rindahl, Paul Wells and Alex Dehoyos.
"Coach Elrakabawy did an outstanding job as the Interim Head Coach this past year." said Raleigh, "As an assistant coach, Coach was part of the most successful seasons in the basketball program's NCAA Division III history and I am confident that he is the right leader to continue and build on that success going forward.
Prior to this past season, Coach Elrakabawy was the assistant coach for the Schreiner Men's Basketball program as well as head coach for the junior varsity team for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. During the 2017-18 season, Coach Elrakabawy assisted the Mountaineers team to it's most successful season in program history claiming the SCAC Regular Season Conference Title, the SCAC Tournament Championship, and the program's first berth to the NCAA National Tournament.
