Crusaders Drop SCAC Match at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team fell to Texas Lutheran University 3-0 on Sunday. The Crusaders (2-6-1, 0-1-1 SCAC) held the game scoreless heading into halftime. Texas Lutheran (8-3, 2-0 SCAC) then came out of the break fired up scoring a goal in the 60^th, 70^th, and 80^th minute to put the game away. The Bulldogs doubled up Dallas on total shots (26-13) and notched 13 corner kicks on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs would test the Dallas goalkeeper early as Luis Green forced a UD save just 33 seconds into the match. Following that stat, Dallas would get shots by Jose Martinez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas), and Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) all forcing saves by the Bulldogs keeper. The Crusaders offensive attack was not done early as Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) and Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) also launched shots on frame. Unfortunately, the TLU keeper was able to keep everything out of the net. Dallas, then was limited to just one shot in the final 20 minutes of the period. Caleb Strange (Argyle, Texas) kept UD in the game making four saves. TLU would outshoot Dallas 14-8 in that half.

The Crusaders struck three early shots in the second half, but nothing was able to find the back of the net. Braulio Adam then broke the scoreless tie in the 60^th minute with an assist from Marco Roman. Exactly at the 68^th minute Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas) hit the crossbar with a strike. TLU was able to gain possession after the shot and head down to the Dallas side of the field. Ralph Miller set up Santiago Quinonez perfectly with a cross to the back side of the goal as Quinonez put the ball in the net to put TLU up 2-0.

At the 70:56 mark Dallas had a corner kick opportunity which found Jake Buete, (Southlake, Texas) but his shot was saved. Later Cameron Townes put the Bulldogs up by three scores after he scored on the assist from Luis Green. UD was limited to five shots in the second period.

Martinez, Haugland, Ogueri, and DePetris each attempted two shots. Strange made nine saves on the afternoon.

Luis Green led TLU with six shots taken placing two on frame. Caleb Weed notched eight saves as the Bulldogs keeper.

"Hard game that the boys competed well in especially given the number of injuries we have and the guys playing hurt," Head Coach David Hoffmann stated. "We had a potential penalty shot, Tomas hit crossbar, and Nat hit bottom of crossbar that was called for only half the ball across the line. Any of those changes put us ahead or tie it up 1-1 at the time. Without them we had to chase the game a bit and opened up for the second goal against which changed the game."

Dallas will be back at the friendly confines of Crusader Field for the next five matchups. UD will start the long homestand by hosting Austin College on Friday (Oct. 11) in another conference tilt. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
