LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Six SCAC women’s tennis teams were in action as the second full week of competition wrapped up on Sunday.
Schreiner posted a perfect 2-0 week as the Mountaineers earned hard-fought 5-4 victories over both St. Thomas and Concordia (Texas) on Saturday. Senior Iris Montero picked up wins in both matches at the No. 6 line, including the match-clincher against Rachel Sweitzer against Concordia by the score of 7-5, 7-6(4).
Southwestern defeated I-35 rival University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 9-0, Friday evening in Belton, Texas. The Pirates dominated doubles with wins of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-0.
For singles, Nina Mitrofanova defeated Victoria Rendon at No. 1 for a second time (6-1, 6-1), and Nina Elez also defeated Alondra Torres Diaz, sweeping (6-0, 6-0) while playing at No. 2. Taylor Despriet, Sara Le and Chandler Vrba would all sweep their matches (6,0 6,0) and Meeshti Shethia picked up a victory (6-0, 6-1) over Sydney Andersen at the No. 6 spot.
Texas Lutheran improved to 4-1 overall with a 9-0 non-conference victory Saturday over Howard Payne, dropping only two games total in the six matches. In doubles play, TLU won 8-3, 8-3, and 8-0.
Samantha Stafford, Mary Eby, Bailey Denton, and Liz Perkins each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles.
The 18th-ranked Trinity women split its dual matches Saturday in the Tigers home debut at the Butch Newman Tennis Center. The Tigers lost 7-0 to NCAA Division II member St. Edward's (Texas) University. Trinity opened its Division III campaign with an 8-1 victory over the University of St. Thomas (TX) in the second match of the day.
The only win for the Tigers against 16th-ranked St. Edward's was at #1 doubles as Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen won their matchup 6-4. In the match with St. Thomas, Trinity swept the doubles competition and the Tigers won five of the six singles matches. DeBauge moved into the top slot for a win, Garcia was the winner of #3 singles, Markiewicz took line four, Mary Kaffen was victorious in the fifth, and Maddee Williams Koeller was a straight-sets winner at #6.
SCAC women’s tennis action continues with five teams in action this week, including Austin College and Schreiner who both play twice.
