Trinity Women Widen Lead after Second Day of SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- With wins in the 200 free relay, 500 free, and 200 IM, the Trinity University women's lead grew to nearly 100 points after Thursday's action at the 2020 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship.. Trinity leads with 358 points, followed by Southwestern University, who has 277 points and Colorado College sits in third with 233 points.

Action began with the Texas Tigers winning the 200 free relay for the fifth time in six years as the team of Mabel Fowler, Star Rosales, Elizabeth Nelson, and Morgen Reyna touched the wall in 1:36.09. Southwestern was second with a time of 1:36.48 while Colorado College finished third in 1:39.92.

Fowler opened individual competition and continued with a win in the 500 free touching the wall in a new SCAC record time of 4:57.37, which was also good for a NCAA 'B" cut. It marked her third-consecutive win in the event. Teammate Meghan Magill was second in 5:05.89 while Colorado College's Kate Brush was third with a time of 5:09.02. 

The 200 IM saw last year's runner-up, Reyna, win the SCAC title with a time of 2:07.46. It marked the first win for Trinity in the event since Kara Beauchamp in 2016. Two-time defending champion Rehgan Hartsell was second in 2:09.85. Centenary College's Kaylin Swoboda rounded out the top three with a time of 2:10.35. 

The night concluded with the 50 free and saw an exciting finish as Jesse Stovall of Southwestern edged out teammate Emma Frey. Stovall clocked a finish of 23.59, good for a NCAA 'B' cut, while Frey touched the wall in 23.74 seconds. Trinity's Rosales was third with a time of 23.94.

5) Austin College - 97
6) McMurry University - 92 
7) University of the Ozarks - 90
