LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southwestern University was the only Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming & diving team in the pool last week as most squads are already making final preparations for the conference championship meet, which is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, February 12-15, in San Antonio.
The Pirates celebrated seniors Brielle Adolph, Teresa Cropper and Megan Mick who competed in their final home meet against UT-Permian Basin, which SU won by a final margin of 145.5 to 125.5.
Each of the seniors had strong performances on Saturday. Adolph had strong swims in the 200 IM where she placed second with a time of 2:25.22 as well as the 100 fly where she placed fourth with a time of 1:06.76. Mick swam the 500 free where she placed fourth with a time of 5:52.54 and Cropper touched fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.62.
Mick and Adolph also helped their team to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay - alongside Natalie Gierat and Brynn Stokes - finishing with a time of 1:57.62.
In other highlights for the meet, Summer Newton placed first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:26.51 while Emma Frey earned a first-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.05.
Rehgan Hartsell came in first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.46 and Jesse Stovall placed first in both the 50 and 100 free with winning times of 25.0 and 55.87, respectively. Natalie Hicks took top honors in the 500 free in a time of 5:29.49.
The team of Hartsell, Gierat, Emma Frey and Stovall took gold in te 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:14.49.
Kyla Gorman represented Southwestern as the only Pirate diver and scored 168.75 in the 1-meter diving and 167.35 in 3-meter diving.
Two more SCAC women's swimming and diving squads have meets remaining prior to the conference championships meet. Trinity travels across the street to compete against University of the Incarnate Word in a dual on Friday and University of the Ozarks hosts Williams Baptist in a home dual on Saturday.
