LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six of the league's men's swimming and diving programs were in the pool this past weekend, with Austin College traveling to McMurry highlighting the action.
The Austin College men traveled to McMurry and picked up the 147-62 victory in an intra-conference dual meet. Ethan Nguyen made AC history in his first collegiate meet, breaking the program's record in the 100 breast with a time of 58.68, making him the first 'Roo to ever swim the event in under a minute. Overall, the men took first in all but two events. Mulitple event winners included David Mowles, who took top honors in the 100 free with a time of 49.96 and the 200 free with a time of 1:49.03, and Nguyen added a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.54. Max Saenz was another multiple winner at the meet, taking first in the 50 free with a time of 22.71 and the 100 fly with a time of 55.42.
Dany Baki coasted his way to first place in the men's 1000 free, separating himself from the four-man field to win with a time of 11:19.45. Also picking up a win for McMurry was Joshua Calderon who took the 100 back in an exciting finish that saw first and second place separated by 0.06 seconds. Calderon's winning time was 1:02.19.
The Centenary men's opened their 2019-20 season on Friday with a 61-47 dual meet victory over Millsaps College. Multiple winners for the Gents included Daniel Lewis (50 fly, 100 fly and 200 free), Sam Collie (50 free and 50 breast) and Ricky Lafleur (100 free and 100 breast).
The Colorado College men's swimming and diving team dominated Division II foe Adams State Saturday, defeating the Grizzlies, 218-46. Four Tigers won multiple events on Saturday. Eric Dallesasse won the 50 and 100 fly, while Walker Martin captured the 100 and 200 free. In addition, Cade Thumann touched the wall first in the 100 back and 200 IM and Casey Block won both diving events.
The University of the Ozarks placed third at the Little Rock Invitational on Saturday. Three different Eagles posted a trio of top 10 finishes. Jacob Jones posted top 10 finishes in the 50 free (23.00), 500 free (5:03.38) and 1000 free (10:36.32); Josh Collins in the 50 free (22.85), 100 free (50.31) and 200 free (1:55.60); and Nicolas White in the 100 back (1:04.48), 200 back (2:19.08) and 200 IM (2:17.15).
The Trinity men's team outscored UT-Permian Basin 167-120, winning 10 separate events and setting a new school record in the 400 medley relay. Spencer Steward won three individual events, as well as swimming the second leg of the winning 400 medley relay. Steward also won both the 100 and 200 breast events, as well as capturing the 400 IM. Daniel Sarman had two individual wins and was the leadoff in both relay victories for the Tiger men's team. Sarman also captured the 100 and 200 back races, besting last year's time in the 200 back and securing seventh in school history with his time in the 100.
Trinity divers were in action at the Kenyon Relays, held at Kenyon (Ohio) College. Anthony Liva was a fifth-place finisher in the men's 3-meter competition. Liva chalked up 206.7 points, just one point in back of the fourth-place diver from host Kenyon.
The 2019 swimming and diving schedule continues next week with two of the league's seven teams in action, highlighted by a conference dual as Southwestern travels to Austin College on Friday.
