LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a short week in SCAC women’s tennis with six matches on the schedule, highlighted by the first two intraconference matchups of the season between Trinity and Schreiner and Southwestern and Texas Lutheran.
No.31 Trinity went 2-0 for the week with a pair of 9-0 sweeps over East Texas Baptist and Schreiner - both on Saturday. Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen won at No.1 doubles in both of the matchups. Doubles lineups against Schreiner stayed the same with Ashley DeBauge and Natalie Hur taking the No.2 spot and Francesca Canjar and Paulina Garcia taking the third. The top five singles were all decided in straight-sets in the matchup with East Texas Baptist.
No.21 Southwestern took the second intraconference match of the week sweeping Texas Lutheran on Friday. The Pirates had 8-0 wins in the top three doubles spots. In singles, Nina Elez took the No.1 spot with scores of 6-1, 6-0, with Mariana Quetzeri taking the No.2 line, 6-0, 6-1.
Austin College split games over the weekend, with a 9-0 sweep over University of the Ozarks on Friday. Anna Sergiovanni and Georgia Moore took the No.1 and No.2 singles in 6-0, 6-1 wins. In doubles, Sergiovanni and Gigi Francis won 8-0 at No.3 doubles.
Schreiner fell to East Texas Baptist in a close match, 5-4 on Friday. Jennifer Garcia won at No.1 6-4, 6-4. In No.2 doubles Marlee Daniel and Blair Villerreal-Drought won 8-7 (9).
It’s a full week of matchups for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis with 11 matches on the schedule, including Southwestern and Trinity both with a pair of national matchups. Southwestern plays No.6 Pomona-Pitzer and No.10 Bowdoin while Trinity will take on No.11 Tufts and No.15 Mary Washington.
