GEORGETOWN, Texas - Trinity University's Cameron Krimbill captured the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Region Men's "A" Singles Championship Sunday at Southwestern University.
The fifth-seeded Krimbill defeated #4 Angelo Yasuro Ito Tost of the University of the Ozarks (Ark.), 6-4, 6-3, in Sunday's final.
Krimbill earned a trip to the ITA Cup, to be held next month at Rome, Georgia. He became Trinity's first Regional singles champion since Paxton Deuel achieved that feat in 2015.
Earlier in the day, Krimbill took out second-seeded Alexis Dimanche of Southwestern, 7-5, 6-1, in the semifinals.
Trinity's top-seeded Jordan Pitts came up short, 4-6, 1-6, to Ito Tost in the semifinals.
In the doubles competition, Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun became the first duo in program history to advance to the ITA Regional A Doubles Championship match after defeating the No. 1 overall seed from Trinity, Pitts and Krimbill. In the finals, the Southwestern duo dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to McMurry's Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell.
The Tigers claimed another victory on Sunday, the "A" Singles Consolation title. Christian Settles won the championship with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Josh Lopez of Hardin-Simmons (Tex.) University.
