DALLAS, Texas -- The honors continue to come in for Schreiner's Devin Hooper as he was named the Division III National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association. Complete Release
On Monday, Hooper was named SCAC Hitter-of-the-Week and the following day he was listed on D3baseball.com's national Team of the Week.
Hooper hit .813 with 13 hits in 16 at bats to help lead Schreiner to a 5-0 week in non-conference play. The sophomore had five doubles and two home runs among his 13 hits to slug 1.500 for the week. He added 11 runs scored and drove in 14 as the Mountaineers exploded for 71 runs over the five-game set.
The sophomore designated hitter is the first SCAC athlete to be recognized by the NCBWA for one of its national weekly awards since Centenary's Preston Ludwick was named hitter of the week the last week of March a season ago.
Misericordia University's Ian McCole was named the National Pitcher-of-the-Week and Salisbury University's Jackson Balzan earned National Rookie-of-the-Week.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
