LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field squads were in action last week with seven of the eight teams in action at various meets, highlighted by Trinity hosting Schreiner, Southwestern, Texas Lutheran and various other local schools for the non-scored Trinity Invitational to kick off the spring schedule.
The Trinity men were led by Sean Majors winning the 400-meters with a PR time of 49.72. Majors also captured the long jump at 6.95 meters. Naim Barnett took home the gold in the triple jump with a leap of 13.64 meters, while Macgregor Arnold and Raini Huynh tied for the top jump in the pole vault at 3.80 meters. Women’s highlights included Jordan Juran winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:06.52, beating her previous best mark by 30 seconds. Liliana Perez won the 800-meters in 2:25.18 and Bailey Dueitt took the pole vault clearing 3.05 meters.
TLU was well represented in San Antonio as Paris Foster took second overall in the men’s 110-hurdles with a time of 15.59. Other highlights included, Dalton Masters finishing second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.87 meters and Ryan Geiger recording a second-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 51.48 meters. On the women’s side, the Bulldogs were led by Hannah Kipp, who posted a personal-record in the hammer with a mark of 44.35 to finish second. Ashlee Hooks and Tia Hart both turned in third place finishes in the high jump and javelin, respectively. Hooks leaped 1.53 meters and Hart tossed the javelin 34.61 meters.
The Pirates were led by Carter Klepper’s first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.92 meters. Klepper also placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.62 meters. On the track for Southwestern, Robert Robuck placed sixth in the 400-meters with a time of 51.56 seconds. On the women’s side, Southwestern was led by Lauren Calzado’s sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meters, crossing the line in 5:42.09.
The top finishers on the Schreiner men’s squad including Carlos Escobedo’s 17th-place finish in the 400-meters (57.39) and in the field events, Joshua Hollis-Roberts took home 16th in the hammer (34.62m). On the women’s side, Kendall Lee finished 15th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52, while Amber Harris was the top finisher on the afternoon for the Mountaineers claiming fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 31.6 meters.
Other action around the league featured Austin College and Dallas traveling to Abilene, Texas for the Hardin-Simmons Cowboy Invitational. The Dallas men and women each placed third, while the AC men finished seventh out of 10 squads, and the women took home fourth out of nine teams.
Charlie McIntyre placed first in the 10,000-meter run, coming in with a time of 36:18.69 for the top finish of the day for Austin College, while Danielle Lozano placed second in the same event on the women's side. Lozano came across with a time of 46:34.89 in the race. Carrie McIntyre earned the second first place finish on the day for the 'Roos in the 1,500 meters, finishing with a time of 5:09.3, more than seven seconds ahead of the next best runner. She added a second-place finish in the 800 meters later in the meet, coming in with a time of 2:32.15.
The Crusaders got strong performances from Nicholas Vega who set a new personal record (PR) in the triple jump with a mark of 11.35 meters and a sixth-place finish. Isaiah Hayes made his season debut on the day as he competed in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 relay races. Kevin McGuirk also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a finishing mark of 59.35. On the women’s side, Jules Oliveti produced a pair of top five finishes, finishing fourth in the shot put (9.35m) and third in the discus (31.78m). Hanna Wilmes also took home a top five finish in a field event finishing fourth in the javelin with a toss of 24.87 meters. The top finisher on the track was Anna Brunk who finished sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 29.86.
The Colorado College track and field teams opened the 2020 outdoor season with a bang Saturday at the Ed Boitano Invitational, held at Puget Sound University in Tacoma, Wash. The men's team produced a school record and four individual wins, while the women's team captured two victories.
Senior Tony Calderon won the men's 3,000-meter race and broke the school record with a time of 8:49.75, lowering the previous record of 8:58.55, set last year by Max Blackburn, who finished third in the race on Saturday with a time of 9:00.45. Junior Michael Gorman produced a pair of wins in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. He produced a time of 22.77 in the 200 and 50.27 in the 400. Sophomore Josh Fry collected the Tigers' fourth win of the day by capturing the 800-meter race in a time of 1:59.50.
On the women's side, junior Camille Weaver picked up where she left off from the indoor season by winning the high jump and long jump events on Saturday. She cleared 1.6 meters in the high jump and went 5.20 meters in the long jump. She also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.01 seconds. Sophomore Mary Alice Ewing finished third in the 400 at 1:03.79 and seventh in the 200 (28.17), while senior Liza Huschle placed fifth in the 400 (1:06.66) and sophomore Megan Koch seventh in the 1,500 (5:14.44).
SCAC Track and Field continues next week as Dallas and Schreiner will both be in action on Saturday at the UCA Spring Opener and the McNeese St. Cowboy Relays respectively.
