Aaron Acosta poured in a career-high 31 points, however Colorado College came up short against the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
Jai Love scored 15 points to lead four Crusaders with double-digit points and UD escaped Reid Arena with a 72-64 victory.
Acosta connected on 12 of 23 field-goal attempts, including four of seven shots from behind the arc, while reaching the 30-point mark for the first time in his career.
His total was the most for a Tiger since
CooXooEii Black scored 33 in a 101-82 victory over Whittier College on Nov. 30, 2018.
Black posted his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, but he was CC's only other player to score double-digit points against the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's stingiest defense.
UD led 45-36 after Love scored with 10:46 remaining in the game, but the Tigers utilized an 11-3 run to cut their deficit to a single point on Acosta's jumper almost four minutes later.
Acosta's three-point play with 6:05 to go cut the Crusaders' lead to 51-50, but UD scored the next six points and closed out the game by sinking seven of eight free throws during the final minute. Â
The teams play for the second time on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Irving, Texas.
