'Roo Men Stay Hot Against Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team picked up its third straight victory and sixth in its last seven games to improve to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, topping the University of Dallas 82-71.

The 'Roos led by as many as 21 points and held off a second half charge from Dallas that got the game back into single digits, limiting the Crusaders to just 4-of-24 shooting from long range and forcing 17 turnovers while only giving it away 11 times themselves. Devin Roland led Austin College with 19 points and Michael Holland notched a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds in the victory.

Austin College jumped out to a 16-6 lead early on and maintained a double-figure advantage most of the way from there. The Crusaders got it to 29-21 but the 'Roos outscored Dallas 21-11 for the remainder of the first half, heading into the locker room with a 50-32 lead. Holland converted a three-point play to make it 59-38 with 14:43 left to play, and after the Crusaders managed to cut it to 70-62 with just under six minutes left, Holland knocked down a corner triple to push it back to double figures and that's how things would stay.

Roland hit 7-of-15 shots to get his team-best 19, and Holland added six assists and four blocked shots. Kameron Hill knocked down three triples and scored all 11 of his points as the 'Roos built their big first half lead as the third Austin College player in double digits. Jai Love led Dallas with 23 points.

Austin College is home again next weekend, hosting Colorado College on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Johnson & Wales on Saturday with tip set for 4:00 p.m. in Hughey Gym.
