Crusaders Sweep Arlington Baptist University
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team completed its sweep of Arlington Baptist University with a 9-6 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders grabbed nine runs off of nine hits. Three different Crusaders notched two hits each in the contest. Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas) and Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) both had two RBI to help Dallas grab its fifth-straight win.

Ryan Flores (San Diego, Calif.) picked off a Patriots runner in the top of the first and allowed just one hit in his first inning of work. In the Crusaders half, Michael Jaquez (Irving, Texas) hit his first triple of the campaign. Patton was able to drive in the first run of the game with his groundout to the shortstop. In the third, Ryan Munoz walked, advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher, and later advanced to third on a bunt single. Garrett Price drove Munoz in to tie up the game with his groundball. In the Dallas third, UD loaded the bases with nobody out. Patton and Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) drove in runs with sacrifice flies to send UD up 2-1. Andrew Womack (Vienna, Va.) then singled through the left side to drive in another run for the Crusaders.
ABU cut the Dallas lead to 4-3 in the fourth after a few mishaps on the Dallas defense. The Patriots found their first lead on the day after collecting two more runs in the fifth with timely hitting. UD had runners on the corners with nobody out in its half of the fifth, but ran into a couple outs to end the inning. ABU threatened in the sixth, but Dallas pitching came up with big outs. Womack began the Dallas sixth with a single down the right field line. Ross Lowe (Lewisville, Texas) reached on an error, and Christian Wheatley (Austin, Texas) walked to open the inning. Hovde drove in a pair with his single through the left side to help Dallas regain the lead (6-5). Mavrick Martinez (Friendswood, Texas) added one more run with his sacrifice fly. ABU made it a one run game in the seventh after Stephen Webb reached on an error and came around to score on a single up the middle.
Dallas tacked on two more runs in the seventh with Womack and Lowe scoring to give Dallas a three run lead heading into the final two innings. William Bresnahan (Windham, N.H.) pitched the eighth and drew up an inning-ending double play after allowing one walk. Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas) came in out the pen and sat the Patriots down in order in the ninth to give Dallas the three-game sweep.
Joseph Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.) had a 2-4 effort and plated one run with a double on the day. Womack notched two hits, scored two runs, and picked up an RBI. Wheatley had another solid at the plate with two hits on three trips with one run scored, and one RBI and his first career triple. Jaquez was 1-3 at the plate, but scored two runs with a triple. Dallas swiped four bases on the day.
Flores got the start on the mound, allowing eight hits, five runs (three earned), and only one walk. Flores also struck out two batters. Jaylen Camarillo (Georgetown, Texas) picked up his first win on the season with two innings of work, allowing just one run off of two hits. William Bresnahan (Windham, N.H.) pitched one inning, allowing just one walk. Montemayor picked up his second save on the year pitching a clean inning.
Three different Patriots grabbed two hits on the day. Justin Velesky drove in two RBI and secured a double to lead ABU. Garrett Price pitched four innings, gave up four hits, four runs, and surrendered three walks. Cole Row relived him for the final four innings of work. Row allowed five runs (two earned) off of five hits and also walked three men.

Dallas will play a three-game series at LaGrange College next weekend (Feb. 29 - Mar. 1). Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The series finale is slated for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
