Trinity Trio to Compete at NCAA Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday. Men's Accepted Qualifiers | Women's Accepted Qualifiers

Trinity University's Justin Campbell and George Warren qualified on the men's side while Trinity's Vanessa Moreno was the only female in the conference to qualify for the national meet.

Campbell qualified in the discuss with a toss of 52.43m - the eighth-best throw in Division III this year. Campbell was Trinity's top men's points earner at last month's SCAC Track & Field Championships as the senior captured the hammer throw, shot put, and discus for the conference champion Tigers. In 2009, he earned All-American honors by finishing third in the discus at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships. Campbell was also elected to the All-Academic Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He is a five-time SCAC champion in track and field.

Warren posted his best collegiate mark in the high jump two weeks ago at the ACU Oliver Jackson Twilight, reaching 2.04 meters to move into the top 15 in Division III at that time. The mark currently stands as the 18th-best jump in Division III and was enough to qualify Warren for this year's national championships. The junior's previous season-best of 2.00 meters came just a few days prior when he took top honors in the event at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Warren also placed second in the long jump at the conference meet.

Moreno qualified in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 36:09.11, which she ran on April 18 at the at the 55th Annual Mt. SAC Relays. The time is the second-fastest in Trinity program history and the 14th-best time in Division III this season. Moreno won the 1,500 and the 5,000 meter runs at the 2013 SCAC Championships - repeating as conference champion in both events. The junior is also the reigning conference cross country champion and her winning 6K time at the 2012 championship was the fastest women's finish ever run on the University of Dallas course. She went on to a second-place finish at the South/Southeast Regional and her 43rd place finish at the NCAA Division III national championship meet helped lead Trinity to a 12th-place team finish.

For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.
