Trinity's Skinner and McMindes Named SCAC Men's Tennis Player and Coach of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches in the league, Aaron Skinner of Trinity University has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Year – the sixth straight year a Trinity player has earned the honor. In that same balloting, Trinity's Russell McMindes was voted Men's Coach-of-the-Year for the fourth straight year. Complete Release

Skinner, a sophomore from Columbia, Mo., is ranked seventh in the West Region in Singles and second in doubles. He holds a 9-12 record at #1 singles. He also has a 15-4 record at #1 doubles during dual matches this season with teammate Nicolas Moreno (14-4) and Jordan Mayer (1-0). In his first two years at Trinity, Skinner is 17-15 in singles competition and 27-6 in doubles play.

Skinner is a two time SCAC men's tennis All-Tournament team selection. This marks the first time in Skinner's career that he was named to the All-SCAC team. He becomes the fourth different Trinity player to be named the league's Player-of-the-Year since 2008 joining Max Frey (2009-10, 2012), Bobby Cocanougher (2011) and Oliver Gaines (2008). Skinner currently holds a career record of 10-0 in (5-0 singles/5-0 doubles) SCAC tournament play.

For the fourth time in his career, Trinity's McMindes has been recognized by his peers as the SCAC Men's Tennis Coach-of-the-Year. McMindes' eighth-ranked Tigers earned the program's 18th SCAC title after defeating Colorado College, 9-0, in the 2013 SCAC championship match. McMindes, in his fourth season as head coach, has compiled a 72-39 record at Trinity and will guide the Tigers to their 20th NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993.
