Trinity Falls to Montclair State in NCAA Men's Soccer Third Round

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Tiger men's soccer team lost a 2-1 NCAA Third Round Playoff game against Montclair State University on Saturday night. Box Score

Trinity fell to 19-1-4 on the season, and has not advanced past the third round since reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2008.  The Tigers out-shot Montclair State 24-14 in the game, and 13-4 in the second half, but the Red Hawks held on for the win.

Montclair State opened the scoring in the fourth minute, taking the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.  Trinity goalkeeper Matt Cardone recorded seven total saves in the game, which included five in the first period.

In the 60th minute, Montclair State made it a two-goal lead on the second goal of the night from Almir Batista.  Minutes later, Montclair State's Pablo Zegarra received a red card, and the visitors were forced to play with just 10 men the rest of the way.  

Despite playing with a man advantage, Trinity was still unable to get its offense going until the final minutes.  Brian Hines scored on an assist by Yuri Ribeiro in the 88th minute of play to make it a 2-1 game.  Trinity had three more shots with under two minutes to play, including one shot on goal in the 89th minute, but Montclair State was able to earn the win.

Trinity finishes its season with the loss, while Montclair State will go on to face Ohio Northern University in the NCAA Quarterfinals at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
