BABSON  PARK, Mass. - The Colorado College men’s soccer team saw its season come to a shocking conclusion on Sunday afternoon when the Tigers dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the University of Scranton in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Box Score

CC was on the verge of advancing to the third round after senior forward Daniel Wright converted on a free kick early in the 82nd minute. His perfectly-shaped shot around the wall glanced off the left post and found the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season and third of the weekend.

But after 87 minutes of being denied by senior goalkeeper Forrest Marowitz and the Colorado College defense, the Royals got the break they needed. The Tigers were called for a foul at the top right corner of the penalty box and Bill McGuiness capitalized by sliding a penalty shot into the lower right corner to make the contest all square.

Senior forward Matt Fechter nearly scored in the 92nd minute when he put a direct kick from 30 yards out just under the crossbar, but goalkeeper James Dillon made a miraculous save by getting just enough of the ball to tip it over the crossbar.

Less than two minutes later, Pat Daley was behind the Tiger defense along the right side when he gathered a pass from McGuiness. He was able to chip the ball past

Marowitz and a pair of defenders to an unmarked Nick Paganelli, who scored in an open net just 3:18 into the extra session. Marowitz finished with six saves for CC, which was outshot by a 21-8 margin.

Dillon stopped a pair of shots. Scranton also finished with a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Colorado College, which was making its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, finished the season with a 14-5-3 record.

Scranton (16-2-2) advances to the Round of 16 and will play either Stevens Institute of Technology or Haverford College.
