AROUND THE SCAC
Centenary (0-6, 0-3 SCAC) had the week off. The Gents return to action on Friday, April 19 when they host Colorado College at Mayo Field for a 3 p.m. start.
Senior attackman Steve Rijo struck for a career-high seven goals
as Colorado College added to its string of SCAC
regular-season championships with a 12-4 victory over Southwestern
on Sunday. The Tigers clinched their fourth consecutive crown and
ran their all-time record to 24-0 in regular-season conference
games. Senior attackman Charles Curtis also figured prominently in
the outcome, scoring twice and setting up three other goals. His
tally with 3:44 remaining in the second quarter proved to be his
second game winner of the season. At the other end of the field,
senior defenders Nate Pearson and James Iglehart cause three
turnovers apiece. Just when it appeared the Pirates might hold 1-0
lead after 15 minutes, Rijo took things into his own hands. He put
the Tigers on the board with 1:58 remaining in the frame and then
added a pair of markers during the final minute, the last of which
came with five ticks on the clock. After freshman midfielder Eric
Neumeyer gave CC a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter, SU had a
golden opportunity to close the gap when Colorado College had three
players in the box. The Tigers, however, allowed just two shots,
only one of which was on target. Freshman goaltender Chase Murphy
made six saves before heading to the bench with a little more than
12 minutes remaining in the game. CC also got a monster effort from
freshman defender Tim Jenkins, who finished with five caused
turnovers and four ground balls. Colorado College travels to
Shreveport, La., on Friday to play Centenary College in the final
game of the regular season.
Dallas had its 2013 season abruptly end this past week due
to injury. Under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Guy,
the Crusaders finished 1-6 including 1-3 in conference play. Having
wrapped three seasons of competition in program history, Dallas
will continue to build on the recruiting trail.
Southwestern (7-8, 3-2 SCAC) dropped a 12-4 decision to
Colorado College on April 14. The Pirates were led offensively by
Jackson Timian who scored two goals on three shots. The loss
wrapped up the regular season for Southwestern as the Pirates will
now gear up for the SCAC Championship game against Colorado College
in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday April 27 at 1:30 p.m.
