Trinity University To Host NCAA Men's Basketball First Round Contest

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Trinity University, the 2012-13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball champions, will host Concordia University (Texas) in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. Interactive Bracket | Printable Bracket

Trinity beat Colorado College, 60-55 in overtime, in yesterday's SCAC championship game to earn the SCAC automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Trinity senior forward Heath Hopson was named the SCAC Tournament MVP after averaging 18 points and 10 rebound per game during the SCAC Tournament.

Trinity (20-7), which won its second straight SCAC championship, will take on the American Southwest Conference champion Concordia (Texas) Tornados on Saturday, March 2 at a time to be determined.

The winner of the Trinity/Concordia (Texas) game will take on host Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second round. The Crusaders received a first round bye. Trinity beat UMHB in the first round of last year's NCAA tournament.

The Tornados (23-5) earned the ASC's automatic bid to the tournament thanks to its first-ever ASC tournament championship. Concordia beat Mary Hardin-Baylor, 80-76 in the ASC championship game.

Trinity and Concordia will be meeting for the first time since the Tigers beat the Tornados, 84-70 on Nov. 18, 2011 at Southwestern University.

The Tigers are in the NCAA tournament for the ninth time and hold a 6-8 all-time record in NCAA tournament play in their eight previous trips to the national tournament. The SCAC is 3-4 against the ASC in NCAA postseason play.
