Women's Soccer Recap (Week 2) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The University of Dallas improved to 5-0 thanks to three wins during the week. The Crusaders got things started with a 3-0 win over LeTourneau. Dallas then closed the week with wins against Schreiner (4-1) and Texas Lutheran (4-0).

AROUND THE SCAC

Austin College went 1-1 last week, topping LeTourneau 2-1 before falling 1-0 to East Texas Baptist to bring their record to 1-2 overall this season. Against LeTourneau, the ‘Roos held a 30-4 shot advantage but needed some late heroics by Lauren Scott to get the 2-1 win. Kelsey D’Amore got the scoring started with a header off a corner kick by Ariel Marder in the 40th minute of action, and after the Jackets had squared things up Scott punched home the game winning tally in the 87th minute off a feed from D’Amore. Against ETBU the ‘Roos held a 13-10 shot advantage but were unable to capitalize. This weekend the ‘Roos are home against Millsaps on Saturday and Rhodes on Sunday.

Centenary (1-1-1) dropped a 2-0 decision to Millsaps on Sunday. The Ladies held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Millsaps outshot Centenary 12-11. The Ladies return to action on Sept. 11 when they travel to LeTourneau.

Dallas
(5-0) remains undefeated after a 3-0 week on the road in which the Lady Crusaders outscored opponents 11-1. On Tuesday, Dallas defeated LeTourneau, 3-0. Senior goalkeeper Brigid Hasson totaled three saves in the shutout effort, in which the Lady Crusaders had a constant offensive attack. Dallas bombarded LeTourneau with 22 shots, landing 14 on goal. Junior forward Claire Sexton  chipped in two scores, while freshman defender/forward Rebecca Brunter contributed another. Dallas took down Schreiner on Saturday, 4-1, never trailing in the game. Sunday pitted Dallas versus Texas Lutheran University, and the Lady Crusaders continued their winning ways to the tune of a 4-0 victory. Hasson notched her third shutout from five opportunities on the 2012 season. Accounting for two goals in the game, Sexton produced five on the week and now has six in five games overall. Johnson and freshman defender Marissa Garcia (Lubbock, Texas) pitched in one apiece. Dallas outshot Texas Lutheran, 29-10, finding the target 17 times.

Southwestern
continued to face some of the top teams in the region and fell to 0-5 on the season after three losses this week. In their home opener on Tuesday night, Southwestern had great looks at goal but couldn't get any to fall as they fell 2-0 to Concordia University (TX). SU then hit the road again to take on UT Dallas and UT Tyler over the weekend. The Pirates took control of the game early with a goal by Lindsay Jakszta but the Comets came back strong with a two-goal second half, stealing the 2-1 win. On Sunday it was the first half that hurt Southwestern as UTT outshot SU 12-3 and scored three goals in the first frame to take a commanding lead. A much stronger second half saw an even 5-5 shot count but the Patriots add one more goal to arrive at the 4-0 final. Southwestern heads to California this week to take on UC Santa Cruz on Saturday and Mills on Sunday.

No. 6 Trinity
notched a pair of shutout wins on the road this weekend, defeating UT-Tyler 1-0 on Friday evening, then beating UT-Dallas 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers got goals from four different players in the two games, and it marked the second straight time that Trinity had shut out both teams. Stephanie Segovia netted the game’s only goal on Friday for her first score of the season, then All-American Emily Jorgens scored the game-winner in Sunday’s victory. Trinity will play just once this week, facing off against Our Lady of the Lake University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. It will mark the 2012 home debut for the Tigers, who play 10 of their first 12 games on the road this season.
