Austin College and Southwestern Advance to SCAC Men's Soccer Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO, TexasAustin College and Southwestern University advanced to tomorrow's semifinal matches after picking up quarterfinal wins against University of Dallas and Centenary College, respectively. Austin College will take on top-seeded Trinity while Southwestern University will face second-seeded Colorado College. A goal in the 10th minute by Joey Alcocer gave fourth-seeded Austin College an early lead and an insurance goal by Mason Waddell in the 77th minute provided the insurmountable cushion as the 'Roos earned the 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference quarterfinal win over fifth-seeded University of Dallas at Paul McGinlay Field on the campus of Trinity University. The 'Roos improved to 9-8-2 overall with their fourth shutout of the year, while the Crusaders ended their season with a record of 5-10-2.

Alcocer's goal was his second of the season, the goal by Waddell was his first. Both of Austin College's goals were unassisted.

The two teams had split their two regular season meetings with both teams earning 2-1 home victories.

Austin College held a 9-5 edge in shots on goal, but both teams had 17 total shots and four corners. Austin's Andrew Celio recorded five saves and McLeighton totaled seven saves for the University of Dallas.

Austin College will battle the top seed in the SCAC Tournament, Trinity University, tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. CT with the winner advancing to the championship match on Sunday. Trinity and Austin College have already played twice this season. The Tigers earned victories in both contests - 5-1 in Sherman (9/30) and 6-2 in San Antonio (10/12).

SOUTHWESTERN 1, CENTENARY 0

On an assist from Matthew Nickell, Perkins found the back of the net for his 15th goal of the season and the eventual game-winner as the Pirates advanced to Saturday's semifinal round and a date with second-seeded Colorado College.

Saturday's semifinal match between Southwestern and Colorado College is scheduled for 7:30 CT.

Southwestern (13-7-1) held a 23-4 edge in shots including 12-2 in shots on goal. Southwestern's Daniel Poole recorded two saves while Robbie Ramirez of Centenary College kept his team in the match while totaling 10 saves.

It was the seventh shutout of the season for head coach Don Gregory's Pirates and the team's fifth win in its last seven matches.

Centenary College closes out its season with a record of 6-13-0.

Southwestern and Colorado College have played twice this season with the Tigers earning 4-0 victories in both matches.
