LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern University continued its winning ways as the Pirates beat Centenary and Austin College to extend their winning streak to five matches. Southwestern is now 6-8-0 and 4-2-0 in SCAC play. The Pirates started the season 0-6.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College (4-10-1, 2-4 SCAC) went 0-2 last
week, dropping a 7-0 decision to 7th-ranked Trinity on Friday
before falling to Southwestern, 1-0, on Sunday. Against Trinity,
goalie Emily Brockette made four saves. She then added one more in
the loss to Southwestern. The Kangaroos return to action on Oct.
20th when they travel to Centenary for a 5 p.m. match in
Shreveport, La.
Centenary (3-7-1, 0-6) finished its
three-match road trip with two more losses, extending its losing
streak to five after starting the year 3-2-1. Southwestern downed
Centenary for the second time in as many tries, 2-0, Friday before
No. 7 Trinity posted a 6-0 win against the Ladies Sunday. Centenary
begins a four-game home stand Oct. 20 against Austin College at 5
p.m.
Dallas (9-6, 2-2 SCAC) had the week off. The Crusaders
will return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when Southwestern
University visits Crusader Field.
Southwestern sits at 6-8 on the season and 4-2 in the
SCAC after a pair of shutout wins over Centenary and Austin College
over the weekend. Southwestern opened each half with an early goal
to set the tone and cruised to a 2-0 victory over Centenary College
on Friday evening. A penalty kick was the difference on Sunday as
the Pirates took advantage of the opportunity to win 1-0 over
Austin College. The win extends SU's winning streak to five. They
return to non-conference action on Tuesday night as they host Texas
Lutheran University at home at 7 p.m. before returning to SCAC
action on Friday, taking on the University of Dallas.
No. 8 Trinity won a pair of games at home over
the weekend, earning shutout victories over both Austin College and
Centenary College on Friday and Sunday. The Tigers had four players
score two goals each over the weekend, which finished off regular
season sweeps against both teams. Trinity also earned road shutouts
over Austin and Centenary earlier this year. Goalkeepers Katie
Garrett and Devan Osegueda both played 90 total minutes to combine
for the two shutouts this weekend, and the Tigers now have recorded
nine shutouts this season. Emily Jorgens and Kimberly Polasek
netted game-winning goals for Trinity this weekend, and Jorgens led
the team with two goals and two assists. Also with two goals were
first-year Maggie Olvera, and leading scorers Shelby Guenthardt and
Stephanie Segovia. Trinity will have just one game this week,
facing off against the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
The Tigers defeated Dallas 6-2 earlier this season in San
Antonio.
